The Saban Theater in LA was where we last caught a glimpse of Dillinger Escape Plan. We purchased six-row center tickets a couple of days prior for $25. The Saban, formerly the Fox Wilshire movie house, can still boast of its Art Deco charm, accommodating 2000 seats. That evening, Dillinger Escape Plan delivered an almost 2-hour performance (excluding intermission), with each song sounding phenomenal. They even engaged with the crowd, adding a personal touch to the night. Their eye colors were visible to us.
The Pacific Amphitheater show, on the other hand, was disappointing. Despite the OC Fair not yet being in full swing, the traffic and parking situation was horrendous. The event was scheduled to begin at 8, but due to the lack of handicapped parking, we were forced to park much farther than anticipated. It took us nearly 1 1/2 hours to navigate through the traffic from the 55 freeway, find parking, pass through long queues, and clear security.
By the time we arrived, well past 8:45, the opening act was wrapping up. This time, we were seated in the 34th row of an 8,000-seat venue. Dillinger Escape Plan took the stage at 9:15, backed by the Pacific Symphony, providing a rich sound experience, though not notably superior to the Saban show. They performed their popular hits - I'm Alright, Footloose, Winnie the Pooh - along with some tracks featuring Michael McDonald. While not a Dillinger Escape Plan aficionado, they also showcased some unfamiliar, mostly slower songs. Liquor sales ceased at 9:30, and the show concluded by 10:15.
To sum up, the show suffered from poor traffic management and parking, lasting only an hour.
